Educational and Public Media

Educational & Public Media provides services that advance education, citizenship and culture in the region served by Washington State University, supporting teaching, research and outreach/ public service missions through the use of media technologies.

We extend educational opportunities by providing formal and informal learning opportunities to people through what is broadcast, through distribution of educational programming on multiple platforms, and through the provision of production experiences in electronic media.

We improve the quality of life in the region by providing programming and services that extend WSU beyond its physical campuses and operating centers.

We enhance citizenship by informing people and promoting dialogue about the issues facing their world and their communities.

We promote an interest in our culture by making available excellent performance and original creation in the arts and humanities.

We provide leadership through expertise in media technologies to the university and to the public.

Electronic media have embarked on historic changes triggered by trends toward digitization, personalization and democratization. EPM will embrace those changes, invigorating and broadening its services to the university and to the public. Historically, EPM services have centered on real-time media, both in the classroom and for audience services. Those will continue to be our "bread and butter," with a strong commitment to quality, reach and loyalty. To these, EPM will add new media services that empower students, faculty, listeners and viewers to engage media in their own time and customized to their own needs and interests. We will add them not because we're prescient but because our constituents have already come to expect them from their media experiences.

Our aspiration is to provide innovative services to and from listeners, viewers and partners beyond the current limitations of geography, platforms, time schedules and organization constraints. We will aggregate, curate and distribute media assets from WSU and external sources for use by the WSU community, expanding video-on-demand services for the university community, on campus, and beyond. We will work to expand our local service through partnerships with other educational entities, non-profit, government and community-based organizations, creating a networked public sphere.
